Add a schedule for OnCall

For general information on OnCall, see OnCall overview.

The first step toward using OnCall is to create a schedule. You must have at least one schedule to create a notification policy.

  1. Navigate to OnCall in the Moogsoft Cloud left-hand menu.

  2. Click the Schedules tab, and then click Add OnCall Schedule.

  3. Enter a name (required) and description (optional) for the new schedule.

  4. Add users as responders to the schedule by selecting a group, individual users, or both:

    • Under User Group, select a group of users to add to the schedule.

      Note

After you populate the list of responders with the group members, the group is no longer referenced. Users added to the group in the future will not be added to the list of responders.

    • Under OnCall Responders, select users to add to the schedule.

      Note

      • The order in which you add the users determines their order in the rotation schedule.

      • All active users in your Moogsoft instance are available to include in the schedule. Users who are invited but who have not yet logged in are not included in the list.

You can invite users through the User Management page if the users you need to schedule are not available for your schedule.

  5. Under Schedule Start Time, use the calendar and time selector to choose when this schedule goes into effect.

  6. Select a Rotation Interval.

A rotation interval determines the length of time a user is on call before the next user in the schedule is rotated in.

    Options include:

    • From one to six days

    • From one to three weeks

  7. Select a Handoff Time.

The handoff time determines the time of day when the current on-call user is rotated out and the next on-call user is rotated in.

You can choose any hourly increment between 0:00 (midnight) and 23:00 (11 pm).

  8. Use the optional Time Interval selection to make the schedule applicable only to a specific time range, or to selected combinations of days of the week and times.

For example, if user notifications should only go out between 9 am and 5 pm, then you can include a time interval to restrict notifications to that range.

You can also include multiple time intervals. For example, you could create time intervals for 9 am to 5 pm for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to restrict user notifications to weekdays between those hours.

  9. Click Save when the schedule is complete.

This procedure creates the Base Schedule. It is now available for use with an OnCall notification policy.

Note

If there is also an Override Schedule, it is considered along with the Base Schedule to produce the assignments in the Final Schedule. See Override an OnCall assignment for more information.
