Creating Incidents in HP NNMi

Incidents are configured in HP NNMi to capture SNMP traps. Based on the SNMP Traps, and the incidents configured for these traps, incidents are generated in HP NNMi. The following steps provide information to configure SNMP Trap configurations. To configure SNMP Trap configurations

  1. Open HP NNMi console. It can be opened by entering http://<server ip address>/nnm in a browser.
  2. Enter the username and password of the HP NNMi console and click on Login.

  3. Navigate to Configuration > Incidents and then click on SNMP Trap Configurations . The SNMP TRAP Configurations dialog opens.

  4. Click on the star icon , when the pointer hovers on the star icon it shows New in the tooltip. Clicking on the icon opens the SNMP Trap Configuration dialog.
  5. Enter the following details for the Name , SNMP object Id , Category , Family , severity and Message Format , Author of the incident, then click on the Save icon.
    • Name : The name of the incident
    • SNMP Object Id : The OID of the SNMP trap that is to be monitored. Any SNMP trap generated with this OID for the nodes present in HP NNMi triggers the incident
    • Category : Select the category of the incident e.g. Fault
    • Family : Select the family of the incident e.g. Chasis
    • Severity : Select the severity. The incidents when generated will have the severity selected here
    • Message Format : S pecify the information you want NNMi to include in the incident's message attribute value. You can use any combination of valid parameter strings and Custom Incident attributes to configure the Message e.g. $category, $cat entered here displays the value of the Category attribute in the Incident form
    • Author : Select the author here. The Author attribute identifies who provides the instance of the object


      Note

      Remember to select the check box Enabled . If it is not selected then the incidents for this SNMP Trap Configuration will not be generated

The incident is now configured. Whenever a SNMP Trap is generated for the configured incident, the incidents are created in HP NNMi.
